The Month Later After The Big Move

It’s been a while since I last wrote a blog entry and things went crazy as I have imagined. The biggest of which is that I have moved to the Big Apple - my favorite city outside my country and it couldn’t been amazing! While it is not the smoothest move that I have done, the experience of moving to the city that you love without the used to convenience of having a car is indeed a challenge!

Looking back to the things that happen the past months, I lost my project that I have just started for a month without reason. Since I work as a consultant, we are pretty much considered as dispensable resources - at will by the owner of the project that we’re working for. A lot of reasons can be attributed for being removed in the project - cost, priorities, behavior, are some of the usual reasons.

As I don’t want to be vacant for another long time, a thought came up that reminded me of the reason why I moved here in the US in the first place. For almost being here for 3 years, working in New York City is one of my dreams. I could and always imagine myself working and taking the subway everyday, braving the harsh winter (which until now, despite the repeated visits in the city during the cold season, I haven’t mastered the correct clothing), among others.

I have told my resource manager that I would be trying my luck applying for jobs and who would have thought that i was able to land a project in New York! Getting a job is one but as with any other relocation, some costs have to be factored, plus the fact that I would be needing to let go some of my things - including the first car that I have bought in my entire life.

As I write this, I am celebrating my first month since I moved, that is if we base it on the first full day of my arrival. The move is a mixed bag, a little bit of deja vu similar to my move from NC to CA but nonetheless, making the big move requires big sacrifices and I have a goal to make it big and successful here. It might be a mountain to conquer but I’m ready for the road ahead.

For the meantime, I celebrated my “monthsary” with NYC with a nice dinner in the East Village last night. I just let myself get lost and check for the dining places in the area till I found one. Not the healthiest but we have to break diets sometimes. :)

I think I have mustered enough stories to tell and thoughts to share. Cheers to more adventures in the city and see you more!
